Sahara Desert and Atlas Mountains: A 4-Day Adventure from Fes to Marrakech

On the first day of your 4-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, you will meet your experienced driver and skilled guide. The journey to Merzouga is one of the longer drives, taking around 7 hours, but the diverse scenery along the way will keep you captivated. We will make a stop in Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland” due to its European nature and climate, parks with lakes and chalets, ski resort, and abundance of snow in winter. Our day trip will also take us to Azrou where we will have the opportunity to observe the magnificent Atlas cedars and feed the friendly wild monkeys. We will stop for lunch in Midelt before continuing our journey through the canyon and valley of the Ziz River. As we approach Er-Rashidia, the landscape will transform into a desert environment. Our first day will end with an overnight stay in Merzouga.

On the second day of your Morocco tour, after breakfast at the hotel, we will meet our skilled 4x4 driver for an exciting expedition in the dunes. We will then share a cup of tea with nomads in the Sahara Desert and learn about their way of life. Later, we will head to Khamilia to see a Gnaoua performance. In the afternoon, we will take a camel ride to our desert camp, which features comfortable beds and separate showers and toilets. We will enjoy a delicious Moroccan meal and gather around the fire to play drums and listen to Berber music under the starry night sky. Spend the night in the camp and take in the beauty of the desert."

On the third day of your Moroccan travel package, we will rise early to witness the stunning sunrise over the peaceful sand dunes - a truly unforgettable memory. After breakfast, we will leave Merzouga and continue our journey to Dades. We will make a stop in Rissani to visit “The Fossil Factory” and see the various fossils that this region is rich in. After around 3 hours, we will stop for a panoramic view in the beautiful village of Tinghir, located in the heart of a vast palm oasis. We will then proceed to the famous Todra Gorge where we will take a walk along the gorge and have lunch at a local restaurant. Our adventure will continue through the charming hamlet of Dades where we will spend the night.

On the final day of our day trips from Fes, we will take a short trip to Dades Gorges before continuing on to Ouarzazate. We will drive through Mgouna, where the annual Roses Festival is held, and continue on to the Skura oasis, a lush palm oasis crisscrossed by multiple rivers. After a 30-minute drive, we will arrive in Ouarzazate, commonly known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” due to the numerous historical films shot there. We will visit the historic Kasbah Taurirt and the Cinema Museum and Atlas Film Studio. We will then take a short drive to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site popular with tourists as it was used as a filming location for Game of Thrones. After our one-hour tour, we will travel to Marrakech over the highest Atlas Mountains, Tizi n-Tishka, at an elevation of 2260 meters. We will make stops for photos along the way on one of Morocco’s most beautiful highways, featuring views of lush river valleys, adobe settlements, and historic kasbah ruins. Upon arrival in Marrakech, you can relax in the hotel and have some free time. Depending on your flight time, we recommend visiting the Majorelle Gardens for a peaceful escape from the heat and noise of the city. Relax before transferring to the airport for your return flight.
